I work closely with Web designers and one of the most common requests that we come across is 'Can you just copy content from that website?' Our answer is a Big NO! Not just because you may end up getting sued for stealing proprietary content but also you lose credibility in the eyes of your clients.

Plagarism is piracy where your content is copy-pasted by some cool dude whose intellectual capacity is limited to stealing someone else's intellectual property. Everyone knows stealing is bad and we don't preach.

But another major reason to avoid copy pasting content is loss of credibility. Let's say your content is a rip-off from your competition, your clients are bound to notice. Establishing credibility online is not easy thanks to our dear friends who keep wanting to transfer money from Nigeria.

Just because it looks good on their website it may not be productive for you. When they see rip-offs, visitors tend to be wary. It is very easy to dent your reputation, especially if you cannot take the effort to have original content on your website. You know very well from experience that your clients are not to be underestimated and most definitely no fools. Today thanks to easy access to information, potential customers tend to do a little research online before approaching a company.

I believe your content is like a fingerprint. No two copies must be the same. Similarly, every business is different from their competitor in one way or the other. If you seek to have your own identity, then it is better to have your unique content  customized for your audience. Get your content writer to
develop original key-word rich content for your website which will help you with SEO. Forget copying ask for copywriting.

You must have heard this dictum the 'n'th time. Right from the eBooks telling you now to make money online or the CEO of some telecommunication giant, they all agree that Content is King. But why is it so?

Content is not just words that you see online. Content is any interactive communication that is used to engage an audience. This can be in form of a blog post, News feeds, Podcasts, Audio files and more. Thus what you see on television or hear on the radio is also content. You will agree that a TV series, if not informative, needs to be interesting and engaging or you will change the channel or switch it off.

Same applies for Web Content. People surf the web for information, recreation or to buy and sell. If you cannot create engaging remotely interesting content then you cannot hold the attention of your audience. Since it is very easy to click away, your time span for retention is very small. Your content must push the visitor subconsciously to relate, recollect and revisit, besides the all important Retain.

Besides, Retention or 'Stickiness' factor, Content is also great for Search Engine Optimization. Google and other major search engines being hungry for fresh Content; a well written piece of blog post, or Website Content will definitely drive traffic to your site.

To sum it up, Why Content is King?:

1. Content engages and interacts with the audience thus adding stickiness to your site.

2. Regularly updated Content makes your site look fresh and not boring.

3. Search engines like Google, love original Quality Content and can earn higher page rankings for your site.
